Dr. Donna Riter
Research supports that current methods of training and preparation of pre-service and veteran educational professionals does not meet the demand of challenging situations. The focus of intervention which was once containment, coercion and control, is now about taking the problems that occur in the lives of students and using learned, practiced and reinforced skills to teach these students more effective coping skills and alternatives to aggression and disrespect. With this in mind, my goal continues to be to work with people who work with children and young adults and to build in those adults a level of confidence, knowledge and skills that will promote classrooms that are open to conflict resolution rather than the conflict cycle.
